Diabetes Epidemic Addressed in Exclusive Series for ReZoom.com

Nationally recognized diabetes expert, Francine R. Kaufman, M.D. is writing a series of articles on how diabetes is a growing epidemic among adults past 40 for ReZoom.com.

Dr. Kaufman, former president of the American Diabetes Association, who is best known for her work with diabetic children and minorities (featured in this week’s Newsweek Magazine) is hoping that her series of articles for ReZoom.com will prove to be a wake-up call to American adults.
“We are at the vortex of the obesity and type 2 diabetes explosion,” says Kaufman, author of Diabesity: What You Need to Know If Anyone You Care About Suffers from Weight Problems, Pre-Diabetes, or Diabetes.” Dr. Kaufman makes the observation that if there isn’t a dramatic change in the trends there will be a 72 percent increase in diabetes worldwide by 2030 which translates into 36 million diabetics in the United States alone and 300 million worldwide. Dr. Kaufman is one of a number of specialists who are addressing major health concerns affecting adults in the 40+ age group.
The series, starting with the first installment, “Diabesity: A Silent Epidemic” will profile middle-aged adults who ignored the warning signs, describe the harsh reality of a life with diabetes, provide a description of a national future without action, as well as ways to prevent diabetes. A third of the estimated 41 million of Americans who are pre-diabetic are unaware of having the condition.
